Christopher A. LeGrand
Chris LeGrand has more than thirty years of business experience, the majority of which has been working in and around the healthcare, public health, and life sciences sectors in the USA and internationally. His leadership experience includes running global mission-driven businesses, where he forges the convergence of positive social impact and sustainable business results. He believes in the possibility of science and technology for good, democratization of knowledge as a great equalizer, and global human-to-human connection as the path to peace.
He previously served as CEO of Futures Group from 2008 to 2014 and in 2016 was appointed as the president of DAI Global Health, a newly launched business of DAI.
In 2008, Chris led a management buyout of Futures Group from its parent company, SRA International. Futures Group was a $100 million global health consulting firm providing strategic consulting and project implementation to governments in developing countries to improve the health and well-being of their citizens. Chris successfully engineered the merger of Futures with an Australian company, GRM International in October 2011.
Previously, Chris was president of Constella Health Sciences, a preeminent provider of integrated health consulting solutions to governments, foundations, and the private sector worldwide. Serving in expanding executive roles, Chris was a key leader in Constella’s success, growing from a $14 million niche consulting business to a $200 million global health player. During his tenure, Chris led a successful turnaround of Constella’s pharmaceutical services business and was actively involved in eight M&A transactions and integrations. He helped complete the highly successful sale of Constella to SRA in August 2007.
Chris serves on several outside boards in the for-profit and nonprofit sectors, including currently serving as board chair for IntraHealth International, a leading nonprofit global health services organization. He recently served as board chairman of the Triangle Global Health Consortium and on the executive board of the Council of International Development Companies. He is also active on the board of an Indian NGO based in rural Andhra Pradesh, India. In the community, Chris is active as treasurer in his church and served for three years as board president of the Choral Society of Durham. He has been the recipient of numerous leadership awards, including Business Leader magazine’s top 100 Business Impact Leaders in the Triangle of North Carolina. Chris holds a MS in information management from The George Washington University and a BS in mathematical sciences from Clemson University.
Elizabeth Mallas
Liz Mallas authored Chapter 9 of The Complete Business Leader book. Liz currently serves as director, Government Affairs for Gilead Sciences. Previously she worked with Chris at Futures Group on a range of business and leadership initiatives, including launching the Complete Business Leader framework within the company. Liz has master’s degrees in public administration from Texas A&M University and in organization development from Queens University. Her undergraduate degrees are in journalism and mass communication and public policy analysis from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. At Futures Group, she served in a series of successively broader leadership roles, having started as an intern and learned every aspect of the business. Her roles included serving in overseas posts in Mexico, Swaziland, South Africa, and the United Kingdom, all the while developing herself as a well-rounded, passionate leader of impactful programs and people. She now lives in Charlotte, North Carolina, where she brings that passion to several community-based organizations and ministries.
